How Does Your Lawn Look During this Drought?

Plus Program Customers See Green, Thanks to Summer Cycle & Inspection Service

Our Plus Program customers are enjoying lush, green lawns and healthy landscaping this year, even during Ohio’s drought. We completed all Summer Cycle & Inspection services, where our technicians identified and fixed problems. Everyone’s sprinkler system is now running in tip-top shape.

Just how bad are drought conditions right now? Here’s a report from WCPO:

“According to WCPO 9 First Warning Meteorologist Brandon Spinner, the Tri-State saw 0.07 inches of rain on Sept. 6 and 0.18 inches on Aug. 28. The last time the region saw more than 1/4 inch of precipitation fall from the sky was back on Aug. 16, when the Tri-State received 1 inch.”

For a healthy lawn, turf needs about one or two inches of water each week (not each month!). Even this week’s predicted rainfall won’t cause lawns, plants and trees to recover. It’s fairly typical for the TriState to see dry conditions in late summer and early fall, so this year is not particularly unusual. That’s why our irrigation systems really show their worth in August and September, especially.

How Does a Cycle & Inspection Service Help?

During Spring Start-Up and Winterization, TriState Water Works’ technicians check for leaks, test electrical components and make changes to the sprinkler schedule. This maintenance helps your sprinkler system run better and save water. However, to get a real picture of your sprinkler system’s performance, we need to be there when your lawn and landscaping need the water most: during the summer.

We cycle through each zone and inspect the performance of the system, making adjustments as needed. Here’s what we’re looking for:

  • Good coverage of all areas of the lawn and landscape beds: no dry spots or muddy spots
  • Damaged sprinkler heads
  • Leaks in the lateral line
  • Leaks in the sprinkler heads
  • Ensuring each sprinkler head pops up, like it’s supposed to
  • Check the rain sensor

If parts of your lawn are crispy and brown, your sprinkler system is under-performing. It’s not too late to join the Plus Program. And if you’re already a Plus Program customer, thanks! Your service will renew after your Winterization appointment for the year. Be on the lookout for an email from the office.
